![]() ![]() When people finally see the film he wants them to reflect on that. Halasima said through his work on the film, he learned that John Jones was at peace in the last moments of his life. "That even into death, that doesn't dissipate, it doesn't just stop," she said of the virtue of love. Johnson said after meeting Jones's wife and loved ones, she learned that he was a good person who valued family and love that's what the movie is about. When John died, Emily was expecting their second baby. The movie will also include flashbacks of John's life and relationships, including that with his young wife and young child. She had no idea how dire the situation was and expected her husband would come out alive. Emily spoke to John over a two-way radio and told him she loved him and encouraged him. The film focuses on the intense efforts to rescue Jones and on the conversations he had with rescuers and his loved ones, including Emily, right before he died. Halasima thought one important reason to tell the story was so people would understand what Jones went through and how it could have happened to anyone who visited the cave. ![]() He said after Jones died, and authorities shut down the cave, many were upset and blamed the victim for ruining things for other cavers. Halasima said he, like many other Utahns, visited the Nutty Putty cave when he was younger. ![]() "Any physical pain or exhaustion only helps trying to show what he actually went through," said the actor.ĭirector Isaac Halasima said they take safety precautions holding Hopson up with harnesses, but they try to mimic what must have been terrifying experience for John Jones. Hopson asked the crew to make it as tight as possible even though it was scary and very uncomfortable at times. At first, there was room in there so he could wiggle around. He climbs into the bottom half of the cave and then they place the top half of the cave over him. Hopson insisted the crew makes his experience on the film set as real as possible. Since then, the popular cave has been off limits to the public. His body was entombed in the cave which was eventually shut down. Rescuers tried desperately to save him, but he died the day before Thanksgiving. It's made to scale - a tight, dark space just like the one where Jones became stuck head down, for an entire day before he died. They've also constructed a replica of the inside of the cave where Jones died. They've shot at the site of the real caves. It will be ready for audiences in the Spring of 2016. The film crew is also committed to getting all the details just right in The John Jones Story. It hits you so much more emotionally," she said. "When you are doing a true story, you feel so much more of a responsibility. Johnson feels playing Emily, Jones's wife, is a gift. "The moment I found out this actually happened, that it was a real person, it puts a weight on you," said Hopson who plays John Jones. When they landed lead roles in a film about the tragic incident, they met Jones' loved ones and immediately felt a great sense of responsibility to tell a story that is known to many Utahns.
